Lent is traditionally a time of spiritual renewal–a time when we intentionally prepare to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. Lent also provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our own life and faith–to examine our sin in light of God’s holiness; our lives in light of God’s love; and our merit in light of God’s mercy.
The classical disciplines of the spiritual life call us to move beyond surface living into the depths of the heart, and to explore the inner caverns of the spiritual realm. These spiritual disciplines, faithfully practiced under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, can open the door to spiritual growth, maturity of faith, and transformation–drawing us closer to God and deeper into His love.
During the six Sundays in Lent, we will be offering a speaker series, entitled “Practicing the Spiritual Disciplines.” As part of your Lenten discipline, I encourage you to commit to joining us every Sunday morning at 9:00 AM to hear members of our congregation speak on each of these classic disciplines of our faith. Topics will include:
Lent 1 – March 5 – Confession – Earle Briard
Lent 2 – March 12 – Fasting – Kathy Doering
Lent 3 – March 19 – Prayer – Annie Edwards
Lent 4 – March 20 – Scripture Reading & Meditation – Ivan Stewart
Lent 5 – April 2 – Serving & Alms Giving – Deacon Derek Waddingham
Palm Sunday – April 9 – Worship – Yolande Chan
