Psalm 136 speaks about the importance of taking time each day to intentionally give thanks to God for His many blessings. However, this is sometimes easier said than done, and involves three things. Awareness, knowing what we’re thankful for, and intentionally taking the time to count our blessings. Going deeper and being thankful for more than just external things like having food, a roof over our head, good health, and financial security. And having an attitude of the heart that grows out of our relationship with Jesus and what He’s done for us. As one person writes; “A true Christian is someone who never for a moment forgets what God has done for them in Christ and whose whole comportment and whose activity have their root in the sentiment of gratitude.”

The Christian life is a life marked by thankfulness, and so, there’s no such thing as unexpressed gratitude. If it’s unexpressed, it’s either down-right forgetfulness, or plain old-fashioned ingratitude and thanklessness. This new sermon will look at some of the elements of thankful living that we’re called to demonstrate, if we want to live lives of intentional thanks giving to God–things like: serious commitment, faithful stewardship, engaged mission, and generous giving.
